Daily living support is the practical, hands-on help that makes an ordinary day work. It is the support worker who arrives in the morning so you can shower safely and get dressed without rushing. It is the person who helps you keep on top of the washing, the kitchen and the yard so your home stays somewhere you want to be. For a lot of the people we work with, it is the difference between managing at home and not.
Motherly Health Care is a registered NDIS provider (registration number 4053350558) delivering daily living support across Oakville, Windsor, Richmond, Pitt Town, Box Hill, Rouse Hill, Kellyville, Blacktown and the wider Hawkesbury and north-west Sydney region, as well as metropolitan Adelaide.
What daily living support covers
We build the support around the tasks that are actually difficult for you, not around a fixed package. In practice, most people we support use some combination of the following.
Personal care
- Showering, bathing and personal hygiene, with as much or as little hands-on help as you want
- Dressing, grooming, shaving and hair care
- Toileting and continence support, delivered discreetly and without fuss
- Transfers, repositioning and safe use of hoists, slide sheets and mobility equipment
- Support at night, including overnight active and sleepover shifts where your plan funds them
Around the house
- General cleaning — kitchens, bathrooms, floors, changing linen
- Laundry, ironing and putting clothes away
- Grocery shopping, either with you or on your behalf
- Meal planning, cooking and safe food storage, including support to follow a mealtime plan
- Rubbish, recycling and keeping the house tidy and safe to move around in
- Gardening, lawns and basic yard maintenance
Health and routine
- Medication prompting and assistance in line with your plan and your prescriber’s instructions
- Support to get to medical, allied health and specialist appointments
- Help keeping track of appointments, scripts and day-to-day routines
- Working alongside your occupational therapist, physiotherapist, dietitian or speech pathologist so the plan they write is the plan that actually happens at home
Who this support is for
We support adults and young people with physical, intellectual, psychosocial and developmental disability, including people with autism, people with complex or high-intensity needs, and people living with mental health conditions. Some people need a couple of hours a week. Others need support several times a day, every day. Both are normal and both are workable.
We also work with families and carers. If you are supporting someone at home and the load has become unsustainable, daily living support can take the physical tasks off you so the time you spend together goes back to being time together.
How we match support workers
The person who turns up matters more than almost anything else. We match on practical things — the skills your support actually requires, availability that fits your routine, and the training your situation calls for. We also match on the things people do not always say out loud: gender preference, language, cultural and religious background, whether you want someone who chats or someone who gets on with it.
If the match is not working, tell us. We would far rather change the worker early than have you put up with someone you do not click with. Asking for a different support worker is your right under the NDIS Code of Conduct and it is not a complaint about anyone — it is just a better fit.
How daily living support is funded
Daily living support usually sits in your Core Supports budget, most often under Assistance with Daily Life. Personal care, domestic assistance and help around the home are generally drawn from that budget, and Core Supports funding is typically flexible between categories. Some capacity-building goals — building your skills so you need less support over time — may instead sit under Improved Daily Living.
Every plan is different. If you are not sure which budget a support sits under, bring your plan to the conversation and we will go through it with you line by line — or talk to your support coordinator or Local Area Coordinator before you commit to anything.
We are a registered provider, so we can support participants whose plans are NDIA-managed, plan-managed or self-managed.
What happens when you get in touch
- A conversation. We talk through what you need help with, when, and what has and has not worked before.
- A plan on paper. We write down the supports, the hours, the days and who is responsible for what — including a service agreement you can read before you sign anything.
- A start date. We tell you honestly when we can begin. If we cannot staff it, we say so rather than leaving you waiting.
- A check-in. We review early — usually in the first few weeks — because the first plan is rarely the final plan.
Talk to us about daily living support
If you are weighing up whether daily living support would help, the quickest way to find out is to describe a difficult day to us.
Call 0401 776 804, email [email protected], or send the enquiry form below. We will ask what you need, explain honestly whether we are the right fit, and tell you what we can start and when. If we are not the right service for you, we will say so and point you to someone who is.
